My Ideal Wallet

Honestly, I do not have an ideal wallet as I depend more on how I feel before choosing what I will use. However, these days, I prefer a small with a minimal style wallet. It has typical components inside, such as cash, an I.D card, pictures, and a rewards card.

THE INTERVIEW

Samantha’s ideal wallet is long as she rarely brings a bag and has a pink color that depicts her cute and innocent personality. The insides of her wallet consist of their family picture, cash, ATM cards, rewards card, and a prayer card.

DIG DEEPER

In line with her spiritual self, Samantha mentioned that she has a prayer card inside her wallet as a form of guidance whenever she’s away from her parents. To represent her organized personality, she opted for a wallet that has lots of compartments.

GOALS AND WISHES

Samantha likes to be devoted to what she does. She tends to give her best, even in the tiniest detail. Thus, Samantha is a hard-working individual that aims to achieve her goals and dreams in life.

INSIGHTS

The overall insides of her wallet explicate who Samantha is as a person. Starting with how simple and innocent she is, I also saw her family-oriented characteristic as her family always has a special place in her life. She seldom brings a bag like what she mentioned, so I believe she is a woman with a sense of responsibility.

TAKE A STAND WITH A POINT OF VIEW

Samantha needs a way to maximize her space, may it be in a wallet or as a person, and feel secure in her belongings.

IDEATE: GENERATE ALTERNATIVES TO TEST

Problem Statement: Samantha needs to maximize and feel more secured with the space for her belongings.

SHARE YOUR SOLUTIONS AND CAPTURE FEEDBACK

I added some designs for fashion, such as leaves to define her optimistic side and a DIY rosary to complete the prayer card to match Samantha’s personality. Then I also added a compartment for her notes, receipts, ticket, etc., and a zipper for the coin purse. For the security of her belongings, I opted to put an iris scanner.

My proposed solution for Samantha’s Ideal Wallet

When I presented her the initial sketches, she liked and was satisfied with the overall idea. However, she wants to modify the color of the DIY rosary and make it glow-in-the-dark. I genuinely accepted and respected her feedback, so I modified and made the changes to her preference.

REFLECT AND GENERATE NEW SOLUTION

After communicating with her and having her feedback, I enhanced and changed the color in glow-in-the-dark that will still look fashionable.

BUILD YOUR SOLUTION

The final prototype supports the preference of Samantha that best describes her as a person.

WHAT WORKED?

She liked the added DIY rosary design, which completes her prayer card whenever she asks for guidance. She was satisfied with the overall output.

WHAT COULD BE IMPROVED?

  • The durability of the added compartment for her notes.
  • The texture and design of the wallet.

QUESTIONS?

Samantha asked if there is a possibility to have a larger space for the coin purse.

IDEAS?

There is a possibility of having a larger space for the coin purse if we adjust the compartments.

THE 9-STEP PROCESS EVALUATION

How did talking to your interviewee inform/ influence your design?

As Samantha and I are friends, knowing her preference was easy for me. Working with her made me know her as a person profoundly. It was a pleasure to design her ideal wallet, so I made sure to reflect and think critically that my design will meet her expectation

How did testing and getting feedback impact your final design?

Her proposed changes made me visualize what she wants to add or remove from the design. It made me think critically and creatively to fit her standards and expectations.

What was the most challenging part of the process for you?

The hardest part for me was I doubted my capabilities to design someone’s ideal wallet. I was anxious if Samantha will like my ideas. Thankfully, we made it possible to make a wallet that fits her liking with her trust and honest feedback.
